ING New York City Marathon 2013
The ING New York City Marathon 2013 took place today, Nov 4th. It was an emotional event on multiple levels for spectators and runners alike. For the first time in it’s history, the marathon was cancelled last year due to the after effects of Hurricane Sandy. There are many areas in the city that are still recovering from the Super Storm, but New Yorkers lined the streets in full force to cheer the marathoners on. The ING New York City Marathon comes just a few months after the bombings that took place at the Boston Marathon and so, security was tight at the event today.
Geoffrey Mutai of Kenya won the men’s race and Priscah Jeptoo, also from Kenya took top honors in the women’s race. Buzunesh Deba, a Bronx, New York resident finished second on the women’s side.
