“Shakespeare in the Park” is an annual theater festival held in the summer in New York City’s Central Park. Tickets to Shakespeare in the Park are always free, which contributes to the popularity of the event. Long queues for the free tickets are a common sight near the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, particularly during the end of a show’s run and during productions with big name stars. Patrick Stewart, Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman, Jimmy Smits, Allison Janney, Oliver Platt, and Kevin Kline are among the actors who have graced the Delacorte stage in recent years.
Shakespeare in the Park Summer 2014 Schedule
As part of the summer 2014 production, Shakespeare in the Park will showcase two plays:
– Much Ado About Nothing directed by Jack O’Brien and starring Hamish Linklater and Lily Rabe will run from June 3 to July 6, 2014
– King Lear directed by Daniel Sullivan starring John Lithgow will run from July 22 to August 17, 2014
How to get FREE Tickets to Shakespeare in the Park Summer 2014
Tickets to Shakespeare in the Park are free and are distributed on a first come first served basis. Tickets are distributed beginning at noon at the Delacorte Theater for the same day performance which starts at 8:30 PM.
Tickets are also available via online lottery. You can enter the lottery between midnight and noon on the day of each performance and request two tickets to that night’s performance. An email will be sent to you letting you know whether or not you have been selected to receive tickets. Winners can pick up their tickets between 5:00pm and 7:00pm at the Delacorte Theater Box Office. For more details, visit the official website

The closest entrance is on 81st Street and Central Park West and the closest subway lines are the B or C to 81st Street.
