Annual Half Moon New York Sword Ale 2008
16 – 17 February 2008
The Half Moon New York Sword Ale brings the phenomenon of sword dancing to a number of venues around a curious New York City, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Jefferson Market Library.
Sword dancing originated in northern England. The dance itself, in which the dancers are linked in a ring by the “swords” they hold in their hands while they work as a team to weave intricate figures and patterns without breaking the circle, bears a close resemblance to English Morris and folk dancing traditions.
