DanceAfrica is a heritage and community celebration centered on the diverse dance forms of the African Diaspora held each Memorial Day weekend at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). Included are live music, a film series at BAM Rose Cinemas, master classes, a student-artist sculpture garden, education programs, and an outdoor bazaar.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the three-day event includes live music in BAM café, an African Diaspora film series at BAM Rose Cinemas, masterclasses for young dancers, education programmes with the Restoration Youth Arts Academy in BedStuy and the outdoor DanceAfrica Bazaar, featuring African crafts, food and fashion.
