The man everyone wants to see? None other than Jamaican sprint sensation Usain Bolt, already a legend in Jamaica and one of the most popular athletes in the world. Bolt competed in New York in 2008, and he electrified the crowd with his first world record in the 100 meters. He’s since lowered that mark twice and set the world best in the 200m, both to seemingly untouchable times (9.58 for 100m and 19.19 for 200m). Usain Bolt had to pull out of the event last year due to injury.
Blanka Vlasic, Tyson Gay, Jeremy Wariner and Jessica Ennis – a quartet of superstars ranked #1 in the world last year – are the first headliners set for the Adidas Grand Prix on June 11. Nickel Ashmeade, Jamaica’s new sprint sensation is also headed to the Adidas Grand Prix.
Oscar Pistorius, the four-time Paralympic gold medalist popularly known as the “Blade Runner,” will make his New York City debut at the Adidas Grand Prix, where he is set to compete against three-time Olympic gold medalist Jeremy Wariner at 400 meters.
Events at the Adidas Grand Prix 2011 include Men’s 100m, 800m, 1500m, 400m Hurdles, 3000m Steeplechase, High Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault, Javelin and Women’s 200m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 100m Hurdles, Long Jump, Pole Vault, Shot Put, Discus Throw.
