Established in 1998, the Brooklyn International Film Festival is held at multiple venues throughout Brooklyn, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and offers a platform to independent filmmakers from around the world.
With a total of US$80,000 in cash, products and services to be won, the festival accepts submissions under the following categories: features, shorts, experimental, documentary and animation and welcomes all formats (35mm, 16mm, HD, DVD, Beta, DV and CD).
A jury comprising of journalists, film festival organisers and film-related professionals selects the best film from each category, awarding the Chameleon Statuette to the winners. The best film of the year, chosen from the last five by the festival board, is awarded the Grand Chameleon Award, which includes over US$30,000 in film services.
