Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting 2007
The lighting of the spectacular Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree signals the start of the festive season in New York City. With more than 25,000 colourful twinkling lights, the tree is loved by children and adults across the land.
Decorated to the hilt, the tree which is typically a Norwegian Spruce towers up to 100 feet high which, in the thick of Manhattan’s skyscrapers, is relatively small. Compared to the average six-foot tree in your living room, though, it’s gigantic. The tree is adorned wth a large Swarovski crystal star on the top and plenty of lights, however, no ornaments are used to decorate the tree. It overlooks the Rockefeller Center’s famous ice rink and sits bang in the middle of the tourist shopping haven on Fifth Avenue.
The 2012 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be lit for the first time on Tuesday, November 30, 2012 with live and taped performances from 7 P.M. – 9 P.M., at Rockefeller Plaza, between West 48th & West 51st Streets and 5th and 6th Avenues, Manhattan. The two-hour long program features various celebrity appearances and a star-studded musical lineup. The world’s most famous Tree will be on display until January 7th, 2013.
The 2011 event was hosted by Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie. Live and taped performances by Tony Bennett, Justin Bieber, Michael Bublé, Cee Lo Green, Faith Hill, Carole King, Katharine McPhee, Javier Colon and The Radio City Rockettes were also part of the event.
