New York City Oktoberfest 2007
October 5 -13, 2007
The Oktoberfest is a two-week festival held each year in Munich, Germany during late September and early October. It is attended by six million people each year and has inspired numerous similar events using the name Oktoberfest in Germany and around the world, many of which were founded by German immigrants or their descendants.
Oktoberfest 2007
Third Avenue closes to traffic and celebrates all things German during the lively annual Oktoberfest. Expect singing, dancing and sampling of a fine selection of German lagers. Aside from the large consumption of beer, there are also bratwurst sausages to be eaten, plenty of pretzels, roast chicken and, of course, some delightful leiderhosen on display.
Oktoberfest was established in 1810, with the marriage of King Ludwig I of Bavaria and his bride, Princess Theresia. The event was particularly unusual because the king invited the public to attend his wedding. The marriage has been celebrated every year in Bavaria ever since and today it is celebrated all over the world
