New York Road Runners (NYRR), founded in 1958 with 47 members, has grown into the foremost running organization, with a membership of 40,000. NYRR conducts more than 100 events each year, including races, classes, clinics, and lectures. In addition, the NYRR Foundation creates school-based running teams through Running Partners, a youth development program serving schools with few or no recreation programs.
NYRR conducts the New
York City Marathon each year on the first Sunday in November.
NYRR members may earn automatic entry into the marathon for
a given year by completing nine qualifying NYRR-sponsored road
races during the previous calendar year. Qualifying races in
2006 ranged in distance from the Fifth Avenue Mile to the 60-kilometer
(37.2 mile) NYRR Knickerbocker 60k.

In popular culture 'The Bronx' has often symbolized violence, decay, and urban ruin. In fact, there are guidebooks that say you must never go to the Bronx! Sheer ignorance, that is all we have to say! Interactive Bronx map
