Central Park SummerStage

Central Park SummerStage 2007

Central Park SummerStage 2008

SummerStage is New York's premiere outdoor concert venue in Central Park (New York City), founded in 1986 by the Central Park Conservancy, its management was transferred to City Parks Foundation in 1994. From the first, the philosophy of SummerStage has been to bring to Central Park as wide a range of performing arts as possible, making them accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. It continues to present performances of outstanding artistic quality, free of charge, including music, dance, spoken word, and film events in the summer months. The artists represent a breadth of genres and cultures, including American soul and U.S. debuts from trailblazing international acts, and specializing in New York City's own emerging indie-rock talent.
In August 2003, during the famous Eastern Seaboard blackout, the Indigo Girls were scheduled to perform. The band showed up to play and did, after the technical staff rewired the venue to work off a single generator. Other memorable SummerStage performances include: Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Marion Williams, Curtis Mayfield, Sonic Youth, Patti Smith, a Joni Mitchell tribute, in which Joni herself showed up for the finale, Toni Morrison and John Legend.
Summer 2008 marks the 23rd anniversary of SummerStage. Well over 1600 individual artist performances have taken place in its 22-year history, reaching a cumulative audience of more than 2.5 million people.

Tribute in Light

The ethereal Tribute in Light memorial was designed to help lessen the aching loss felt across the country since 9/11. It is a profound symbol of strength, hope and resiliency.

The New Yankee Stadium

New Yankee Stadium is the working title for a new stadium for the New York Yankees, currently under construction. It will open in 2009, replacing the third-oldest stadium in the Major Leagues.

The Bronx

In popular culture 'The Bronx' has often symbolized violence, decay, and urban ruin. In fact, there are guidebooks that say you must never go to the Bronx! Sheer ignorance, that is all we have to say!
