Jivamukti's evening of silence is a refreshing way to see out the old year and welcome in the new. In the chilled spaces of the yoga centre's airy loft, you are invited to meditate, practise yoga, read, write or just sit and clear your mind.
From 9pm until midnight, participators are welcome to come and go as they please as long as it is in complete silence. During this time, hot chai will be served and a teacher will perform a puja with some offerings of oils, milk, yoghurt and flowers.
At midnight, the hush will be broken with chanting of Sanskrit phrases that promote freedom and happiness. There may also be a short talk before the doors finally close at 1am and the flock are left to face the mayhem of New York on New Year's Eve.
