City Parks Foundation is a New York City-based non-profit dedicated to the improvement of urban parks and neighborhoods through programming in parks, including athletic instruction for youth and seniors, performing arts, and education programs, all offered free of charge, and through community organizing. The organization reaches more than 600,000 people every year and is active in more than 700 parks.
New York City Parks Foundation
Founded in 1989, City Parks Foundation is one of the oldest and largest citywide parks organizations in the country.
Some of the specific programs offered by City Parks Foundation include free concert, dance and theater festivals in parks across New York City, such as Central Park Summerstage and the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, free tennis, golf and track & field instruction for youth, a free seniors fitness program, and education programs like Coastal Classroom, Learning Gardens, and Seeds to Trees.
In addition, City Parks Foundation partners with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation to offer Partnerships for Parks, an organization that supports the activity of over 60,000 volunteers in parks each year.

New York City Parks Events 2008

CityParks Golf, Tennis and Track & Field help promote physical fitness, as well as building self confidence. These FREE sports programs are designed to make instruction and equipment freely available to those who want to learn in a fun, relaxed environment. CityParks Golf, Tennis and Track & Field free lessons for kids are offered for all skill levels.

CityParks Golf 2008

CityParks Golf makes it fun and easy for boys and girls ages 6 to 17 to learn to play golf. These FREE golf lessons, held in public parks and on citywide courses, makes the sport of golf accessible to kids of all skill levels throughout New York City. Free use of equipment is available at all lessons.
As with all City Parks Foundation kids sports programs, the emphasis is not only on learning the basics of a given sport, but also in developing self-esteem, discipline, and sportsmanship. The program gives kids a chance to improve their skills and ultimately try out for the CityParks Intermediate Program and Junior Golf Academy - a specialized program for dedicated young golfers.
Two 4-week sessions run in July and August for beginner players.

CityParks Tennis presented by Chase

CityParks Tennis presented by Chase, provides free tennis lessons to thousands of kids each year in more than 36 parks throughout the five boroughs.
The program promotes physical fitness while building self confidence. The program is designed to make the sport of tennis freely available to those who want to learn the game in a fun, relaxed environment.
CityParks Tennis lessons for kids are offered at all skill levels. Opportunities include free beginner lessons, tournaments, leagues, excellence programs and special events.
CityParks Tennis features free lessons for kids ages 5 to 16 in 36 parks throughout the five boroughs.

There are three levels of instruction to meet the needs of all players: Pee Wee (ages 5-7); Beginner (ages 8 and up); and Intermediate (determined by ability). Pee Wee lessons will meet for the first hour of each session.
Registration takes place in each park while the program is in session.
Each summer concludes with a tournament held at the Central Park Tennis Center for beginners and Flushing Meadow Park for intermediates as part of The Chase Aces Tournament.

End Date: Tuesday, August 12th, 2008
CityParks Tennis Finals: August 12th - 18th

CityParks Track & Field 2008

CityParks Track & Field gives New York City kids the chance to learn the basics of the sport, from hurdles and relay races to long jump, shot put and javelin throw.
The program, supported by ING Run for Something Better, is open to boys and girls ages 5-16 and runs each summer in July and August.
Actual start dates for lessons at each park vary according to which days of the week lessons are given there. So please make note of the correct start date for your park.
All participating kids have the opportunity to display the basic skills learned at the end of each season at an organized track meet held at Icahn Stadium, the world class sports complex on Randalls Island.
Participants must register at each park when the program is in session.

Ages (5 – 7) 9:30 – 10:30 AM
Ages (8-16) 10:30 – 12:00 PM
Start Date: Monday, July 7th, 2008 or Tuesday, July 8th, 2008
End Date: Tuesday, August 12th, 2008
Track Meet: Wednesday, August 13th, 2008
Registration is On-Site
